Housing investment into Greater Manchester is at an all time high as areas Oldham, Rochdale and Salford receive millions of pounds of investment.
The Manchester suburb of Salford is preparing for a new housing development. around Piccadilly station will be home to a zero-carbon 'green' construction project to build homes for 5,000 civil servants relocating from London and the southeast.
Meanwhile Rochdale is set to see millions of pounds invested in its housing over the next few years thanks to an agreement between the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) and the Association of Greater Manchester Authorities (AGMA).
The HCA and AGMA have agreed a Local Investment Agreement, which will see over £370 million of investment on housing and regeneration priorities within Greater Manchester.
The Local Investment Agreement includes funding of £30 million for the National Affordable Housing Programme across Greater Manchester. Rochdale will receive part of this funding, helping to deliver homes for rent in Sustainable Communities neighbourhoods across the borough.
The agreement also includes £28 million of Housing Market Renewal investment across Oldham and Rochdale for 2010/11.
John McGuire, Chairman of the HMR Pathfinder, said: “I am delighted that the HCA and Greater Manchester colleagues have recognised the vital work we are undertaking and have identified resources for next financial year which should enable us to accelerate new build development in places like Wardleworth and Hamer, Langley, Deeplish and Kirkholt."
