The top 20 postcodes where home insurance claims have been made for residential burglary have been revealed by Moneysupermarket. London and Nottingham do not show a good picture with both areas featuring highly in the table.(below)

Home owners and those seeking a new home will be interested to learn about the places in England where statistically a home is more likely to be burgled.

The figures indicate that homeowners in parts of Nottingham and London are among the UK's most likely locations to be a victim of a house burglary

The study examined 2.6m claims and found that the worst hit area was Arnold in Nottinghamshire postcode NG5. London featured five times in the top 20 with SW11 Battersea, N8 Hornsey, E17 Walthamstow, SW6 Fulham and SE23 Forest Hill, showing increased risks

Julie Owens, the site's head of home insurance, said: "Along with many other UK cities, London and Nottingham are classed as high-risk areas for crime and it is no surprise to see these areas dominating the top 20."

But she added: "No matter where you live, there is always a risk you could become a victim of theft or burglary."
