Imaginatively CONVERTED STONE CHURCH with bespoke open plan interior in stunning countryside.
Swythamley Chapel is constructed of mellow sandstone elevations under a tiled roof, with decorative ridge tiles and copings and a large castellated belltower. The Brocklehurst family, who owned the neighbouring prestigious Swythamley Hall Estate, built the Chapel in 1904. Swythamley Hall Estate has been in the possession of only two families, the Traffords and the Brocklehursts, for over 700 years, since the reign of Edward I. The main house and buildings remain in their parkland setting, views of which are enjoyed from the Chapel. In an elevated position and surrounded by mature gardens, with no adjacent or overlooking properties, this is an idyllic retreat. There are rural, far reaching views from the front elevation also.
The Chapel has a wealth of original features, but will be in some need of minor TLC in accordance with buyer's taste. The property was flooded in January 2010 due to burst pipes, and major insurance repair and renovation is currently under way: this will render the property in better condition than it was before! It will be newly decorated, newly carpeted at a basic level, all floorcoverings renewed, new ceilings and walls in areas that were affected, new tiling to bathrooms and kitchen, improvements to damp, electric installations and plumbing.
The sale price (listed at 18/8/2010) and for a trial period only to see if it effects a quick sale, is now BELOW price at which it was last purchased six years ago. Its current valuation is in excess of the sale price, therefore offers are NOT acceptable.
At the time of writing, the insurers' contractors are still working in the property so if you elect to view, it may look like a building site but the photos shown here will demonstrate how it looked before; the finished product when insurers leave the job, will be to a comparable or better spec than is shown in the photos. All paintwork will be neutral. We are also highly confident that it will survey well.
Please note that the double garage was transformed into a workshop some years ago but is easily converted back. The house has a very extensive driveway with space to park at least 5 cars.
Features include magnificent stone mullioned windows with leaded and stained glass. Granite and stone pillars, a wealth of decorative stonework, vaulted ceilings, exposed timbers, and oak panelling remain. A small library within the belltower contains the mechanism for the original 8 bell peal, still in working order. The interior has a spacious, airy feel, due to the extensive ground floor living space.
The covered porch at Ground Floor level leads to several rooms: the entrance lobby; the open plan LIVING ROOM AND DINING AREA of 35' (10.36m); a sizeable KITCHEN, and study with charming original features and wood burning stove; and the downstairs cloakroom. The first floor contains a SINGLE BEDROOM with gallery, the large MASTER BEDROOM SUITE with EN-SUITE SHOWER ROOM, and the MAIN BATHROOM, while the lower ground floor (accessed from living room) provides for a further GUEST SUITE comprising DOUBLE BEDROOM AND GUEST BATHROOM, with its own private entrance and garden area. GARAGING, currently converted into a modern workshop room with electrics, plumbing and modern flooring, is also accessed at this level.
The property freehold has been obtained and will be included in the sale.
